The culture of the Brandywine Valley is as varied as the landscape. One can find the casual aspects of local people to the high society living of the DuPont family and the establishment of Longwood Gardens.

The Longwood Fire Company is a combination of people from the surrounding communities making time to serve their neighbors at times of crisis. Well known because it sits on the side of Route 1 by the entrance of Longwood Gardens, Longwood Fire Company hosts events throughout the seasons.

Preserving history is inherent in the minds of Chester County residents. Museums in the area have been dedicated to a local resident, Christian Sanderson and to the artwork of the Brandywine School artists including the painting treasures of the Wyeth family.

In addition, the landscape is populated with small social gathering places such as the Quaker Meeting Houses, Granges, fire companies and the public and private schools. The influence of the colonists is still evident today as we see the historical culture reflected in the festivals and events which take place all year long.

A visit to this special part of Chester County can last a day or a lifetime to explore the many hidden treasures of history and culture of our heritage.
